Backbone rearrangements of androst-5-ene and D-homoandrost-5-ene: a novel racemisation

Abstract

The title compounds rearrange under acidic conditions to give mixtures of 8(9)-enes; equilibration of configurations at C-5, C-10, C-13, and C-14 in the D-homo-compounds leads to complete loss of optical activity.
