Phenolic hydroxy-group reactivity in catechin

Abstract

N.m.r. and fluorescence spectra of the products of the reaction of catechin with ethyl bromoacetate show that the 3′- and 4′-phenolic hydroxy-groups become etherified before those at positions 5 and 7.
