Flash-vacuum thermolysis of phenyl-p-benzoquinone
Abstract
Flash-vacuum thermolysis of phenyl-p-benzo-quinone yields naphthalene, 2-hydroxydibenzofuran, and phenyl-1,4-hydro-quinone; the formation of naphthalene can be visualised as an intramolecular trapping of either a butadiene diradical, cyclobutadiene, or tetrahedrane by the phenyl ring.
