Retention of configuration at the migrating atom in the photochemical 1,3-allylic shift of a benzyl group

Abstract

The retention of configuration of the migrating benzylic group in a photochemical 1,3-allylic shift is demonstrated in the rearrangement of 3-methyl-5-phenyl-dicyanomethylenecyclohexane to 2,2-dicyano-5-methyl-3-phenylmethylenecyclohexane.
