4-[Bis(carboxymethyl)aminomethyl]-3-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid as a fluorescent indicator for the complexometric titration of calcium plus magnesium

Abstract

4-[Bis(carboxymethyl)aminomethyl]-3-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid, known also as 1-dicarboxymethylaminomethyl-2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid, a spectro-fluorimetric reagent for beryllium, has been found to be an effective fluorimetric indicator for the complexometric titration of calcium plus magnesium when used in conjunction with a suitable fluorimetric titrimeter. A procedure is described in which the indicator is used in the titrimetric determination of magnesium in silicate rocks.
