Calculation of the transient diffusion of a gas through a solid membrane into a finite outflow volume

Abstract

The solution of the diffusion equation for the flow of gas through a solid membrane from a region of constant concentration into a finite outflow volume in which the concentration increases with time, has been investigated numerically. The results obtained enable both the diffusion and solubility constants to be determined experimentally irrespective of the size of the outflow volume.
