Anodic oxidation. Part X. Experiments with dimedone (5,5-dimethylcyclohexane-1,3-dione)
Abstract
Electrolysis of sodiodimedone in methanol gives bis-(4,4-dimethyl-2,6-dioxocyclohexyl)methane, C17H24O4 the dehydrogeno-trimer, C24H32O6, and two related compounds having the formulae C24H32O7 and C25H34O7. Evidence is presented which leads to structural assignments for the three ‘trimeric’ products, but their mode of formation is not clear. The electrolysis of dimedone in a range of other solvents, and its oxidation by lead dioxide have also been investigated. Several transformation products of the dehydrogeno-trimer are discussed.
