Configurational isomers of 3-substituted cis-hexahydrocarbazoles

Abstract

The preparation and properties of cis-hexahydrocarbazoles substituted (But, Me, and MeO) at the 3- and 6-positions are described.

The role of protonation in the smooth catalytic hydrogenation of tetrahydrocarbazoles in ethanol–aqueous fluoroboric acid has been confirmed. Configurational isomers, defined as syn and anti, have been identified in the 3-substituted series; their configurations have been assigned according to conformational theory and n.m.r. spectroscopic data.
