X-Ray structure analysis of the disulphide from 1-methyl-5-mercaptouracil

Abstract

The crystal and molecular structure of the disulphide from 1-methyl-5-mercaptouracil was determined by X-Ray diffraction methods. The conformation of the disulphide linkage is described by two torsion angles, one (78°) describing the twist about the S–S bond, ϕ(SS), and the other (83°) relating the orientation of the S–S bond to the π ring system, ϕ(πSS). The S–S bond length of 2·074(3)Å may be correlated with the ϕ(πSS) angle.
