Mass spectra of inorganic molecules. Part VI. Some transition-metal hydride complexes
Abstract
The mass spectra of a wide range of transition-metal hydride complexes have been measured. In most cases the parent-molecule ion is observed in high abundance allowing the precise molecular formula to be determined. An attempt has been made to correlate the fragmentation pattern with the presence of terminal or bridging hydrido-ligands. In general it would appear that for monomeric hydride complexes there is almost always loss of hydrogen from the molecular ion and, for carbonyl hydride species, competitive loss of H and CO. For polymeric hydride complexes, hydrogen loss does not occur from the molecular ion.
