New polynuclear carbonyl complexes containing iron with cobalt or rhodium

Abstract

The reaction of Fe2(CO)9 with (π-C5H5)M(CO)2](M = Co or Rh) has led to the preparation of five new polynuclear carbonyl complexes containing iron with cobalt or rhodium. The structure of these new ‘mixed-metal’ complexes has been inferred from a combination of i.r., n.m.r., and Mössbauer spectroscopic data and is discussed in relation to the structures of known polynuclear carbonyls such as Fe3(CO)12 and (π-C5H5)3Rh3(CO)3.
