Kinetic studies of some reactions of bis(ethylenediamine)palladium(II) ions in acid aqueous solution

Abstract

The reactions Pd en22+ Pd en(H2O)22+ and Pd en22+ Pd en Cl2(en = ethylenediamine) have been studied in aqueous solution at 25° and ionic strength 1·0M. These reactions occur in two stages: the first involves establishment of an equilibrium between the substrate and a species containing a protonated, monodentate ethyl-enediamine ligand. The details of the mechanisms are discussed and compared with others involving the replacement of chelate ligands from palladium(II) complexes.
