The pyrolysis of nopinol

Abstract

The pyrolysis of nopinol gives the hydroxyolefin(6) and the aldehyde (5)via abnormal C-5–C-6, C-1–C-7 cleavage of the pinane cyclobutane ring, the mode of formation of the aldehyde being established by deuterium labelling experiments.
