The high reactivity of radical-anion-prepared sodium hydride: reaction with benzyl chloride

Abstract

Sodium hydride prepared by the reaction of sodium dihydronaphthylide with hydrogen reacts readily with benzyl chloride to give hydrogen, toluene, bibenzyl, and stilbene.
