3-Substituted 1-(2-carboxyphenyl)triazenes, on being heated in solution with 2,3,4,5-tetraphenylcyclo-pentadienone, afford 1,2,3,4-tetraphenylnaphthalene, a benzyne adduct, in good yields, providing a new route for generating benzyne.
