The structure of arenicochromine, a trihydroxymethoxybenzpyrenequinone from Arenicola marina

Abstract

Arenicochromine, a pigment obtained from the lugworm, Arenicola marina, is shown to be a trihydroxy-methoxybenzpyrenequinone; a possible derivation from 3,4-benzpyrene is suggested.
