The 31P nuclear magnetic resonance spectrum of menthyl methylphosphinate

Abstract

The large difference (4·3 p.p.m.) in the 31P n.m.r. chemical shifts of the epimers of menthyl methyl-phosphinate is explained by assuming unequal π-interactions between the bridge-oxygen atom and the phosphorus atom in the down-conformations.
