Photo-oxidation of aryldihydropyrans

Abstract

Haematoporphyrin-sensitised photo-oxidation of the aryldihydropyran (I; R = H) gives the ester–aldehyde (II; R = H); the dimethyl analogue (I; R = Me) gives (II; R = Me) excluding the intermediacy of an allylic hydroperoxide.
