Conductance, density, and viscosity of NaI in anhydrous acetonitrile at 25°C

Abstract

Results are reported for the conductance of NaI in anhydrous acetonitrile at 25°C for the dilute region of concentration (0.0004–0.1 N) and to saturation solubility (0.1–1.3 N). For the dilute range an analysis is presented from the viewpoints of associated and unassociated electrolytes, and a value of KA is obtained using a modified treatment of the 1957 Fuoss-Onsager equation. The single-ion conductance λ+0 is obtained and compared with other cations in acetonitrile and different solvents. For concentrated solutions, the data can be accounted for by the Wishaw-Stokes equation with 4.5 Å as the ion size parameter over the entire concentration range.
