Effect of cation vacancies on radiolysis of sodium nitrate

Abstract

Doping sodium nitrate crystals by homogeneous incorporation of calcium nitrate increases [graphic omitted] for radiolytic decomposition. The proportions of radiolytic decomposition products do not appear to be much affected but the maximum concentration of radical species, other than NO2·, surviving at room remperature is substantially larger than in the untreated sodium nitrate.
