Additivity relationships in polar diamagnetic salts. Part 3.—Double salts of magnesium and zinc with potassium and ammonium and some alums

Abstract

Diamagnetic susceptibilities of a number of double salts of magnesium and zinc with potassium and ammonium have been measured in the solid state. Experimental values are close to the values calculated from the appropriate single salts, assuming additivity, but small systematic deviations have been observed. Magnetic susceptibility values are correlated with molar volumes of the salts and deviations interpreted in terms of changes in crystal lattice dimensions.
