Phenylhydrazine derivatives of sugars. Part II. Structure of sugar phenylosazones
Abstract
The i.r. and u.v. spectra of a number of sugar phenylosazones indicate that the C-2 phenylhydrazine residue has a phenylazo-structure and not a phenylhydrazone one. Evidence is also given that in the solid state the sugar phenylosazones have cyclic structures. In the case of D-glucose phenylosazone this involves a 1,5-oxide ring.
