Reactions of lead tetra-acetate. Part XVII. Preparation and properties of azoacylals
Abstract
Lead tetra-acetate oxidation of N-benzoyl-NN′-diphenylhydrazine gives a mixture of cis- and trans-azobenzene. Similar oxidation of NN′-dibenzoylphenylhydrazine gives, according to the conditions, either benzoylazobenzene, or α-phenylazobenzylidene acetate benzoate, and example of the previously unknown azoacylals. A number of these compounds have been prepared, and their properties have been investigated. Mechanisms are proposed to account for these reactions.
