Reactive intermediates. Part V. The generation and reactions of 1,8-dehydronaphthalene

Abstract

1,8-Dehydronaphthalene, generated by oxidation of 1-aminonaphtho[1,8-de]triazine, is a highly reactive species which can be trapped by 1,2-addition to olefins, acetylenes, and by the formation of products apparently arising from radical abstraction. Addition to dimethyl azodicarboxylate gave dimethyl 1,2-dihydrobenz[cd]indazole-1,2-dicarboxylate, an example of the elusive benz[cd]indazole system.
