Mechanism of the conversion of methyl β-benzoyl-β-bromopropionate into methyl β-benzoyl-α-methoxypropionate

Abstract

Methyl β-benzoyl-α-methoxypropionate was obtained from methyl β-benzoyl-β-bromopropionate by treatment with potassium acetate in methanol. Kinetic studies indicate that this reaction proceeds via elimination of hydrogen bromide and addition of methanol.
