Preparation and reactions of some new isocyanide complexes of iron(II)

Abstract

The preparation of FeCl2(ArNC)4(ArNC =p-MeO·C4H3·NC) is reported and its reactions with SnCl2, HgCl2, NaClO4, and [Et4N]Cl have been investigated. 1 : 1 and 1 : 2 Adducts are formed with SnCl2 and these are octahedral complexes containing SnCl3 groups as ligands. A 1 : 1 adduct is formed with HgCl2 which is extensively ionised in solution, probably to give [FeCl(S)(ArNC)4]+HgCl3(S = Solvent). Cationic complexes of the type [FeCl(L)(ArNC)4]+(L = CO, ArNC) have been prepared, also [Fe(SnCl3)(ArNC)5]+ which is the first cationic complex containing SnCl3 as a ligand.
