Transition-metal dithiolenes. Part VIII. Metal complexes of tris-tetrachlorobenzene-1,2-dithiol and related compounds

Abstract

The syntheses of tristetrachlorobenzene-1,2-dithiolene complexes [M(S2C6Cl4)3]z(z=–2, M = Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe and W; z= 1, M = V, W, and Re; z= O, M = W) are reported. The preparation of [W(S2C6H3Me)3] and of a manganese tristoluene-dithiolene species are described. Voltammetric studies of these tris-tetrachlorobenzene-dithiolene complexes show that they exist as part of a six-membered electron-transfer series, [M–S]z(z may be + 1, 0, –1, –2, –3 or –4) common to other analogous tris-dithiolenes species. The half-wave potential data for a selection of tris-dithiolene complexes are discussed, and the spectroscopic and magnetic data obtained from the tetrachlorobenzene-1,2-dithiolenes are presented.
