Some azido, cyano, thiocyanato, and related complexes of bis-π-cyclopentadienyl-molybdenum and tungsten

Abstract

The complexes (π-C5H5)2MCl2(M = Mo or W) undergo displacement reactions with pseudohalides forming a variety of complexes, e.g., (π-C5H5)2MX2, where M = Mo, W and X = N3, NCS. Related complexes with mixed ligands are similarly prepared, e.g., (π-C5H5)2WXY, where X and Y are Cl and NCS, NCS and SCN, MeO and CN, or EtO and CN. The cyanate anion reacts forming the complexes (π-C5H5)2Mo(OCONH2)2, (π-C5H5)2W(OCONH2),H2O, and (π-C5H5)2W(NCO)2. Some of the complexes oxidise forming stable cations, e.g., [(π-C5H5)2WCINCS]+PF6. The cyano-complexes protonate forming hydrogen cyanide complexes, e.g., [(π-C5H5)2-WOEtCNH]+PF6.
