Electronic properties and stereochemistry of dipotassium barium hexanitrocuprate(II)

Abstract

The single-crystal polarised electronic and e.s.r. spectra and i.r. spectrum of K₂BaCu(NO₂)₆ have been examined. By comparing these properties with those of complexes of known crystal structure it is suggested that the copper(II) ion occupies a tetragonal octahedral environment of approximate D_4h symmetry, involving six-fold nitro-co-ordination.
