Fluoride crystal structures. Part VII. Vanadium pentafluoride

Abstract

Crystals of vanadium pentafluoride are orthorhombic, space group Pmcn, a= 5·40, b= 16·72, c= 7·53 Å. The structure was refined by three-dimensional least-squares methods, the final R being 0·096 for 369 independent reflections. The structure consists of endless chains of molecules linked by cis-bridging fluorine atoms, with an approximately octahedral arrangement of fluorine atoms around the vanadium atom.
