The i.r. and Raman spectra of compounds containing anions of the formula [M(S2O3)2]2– where M = selenium or tellurium are reported. In all the compounds the symmetric tellurium–sulphur stretching frequency lies in the region 236–263 cm.–1 and the symmetric selenium–sulphur stretching frequency in the region 256–276 cm.–1.
