Preparation and reactions of gallium alkoxides

Abstract

Alkoxides of gallium, Ga(OR)3(R = Me, Et, Prn, Bun, Bus, Pri, and But), have been synthesised by alcoholysis and transesterification reactions. Halide alkoxides of gallium, Ga(OR)3–xClx(R = Me and Et; x= 1 and 2), have been prepared by treating gallium alkoxides with acetyl chloride. All the compounds except gallium methoxide are soluble in organic solvents and could be volatilised under reduced pressure. Their molecular weights have been determined ebullioscopically in boiling benzene. Infrared spectra of some compounds have been studied.
