Crystal structure of a diolefin complex of platinum(II)

Abstract

The structure of a diolefin complex of platinum, C10H14O3PtCl2, formed by acidification of trisacetylacetonatoplatinum(II), is reported. The crystals are monoclinic with a= 8·903, b= 18·435, c= 7·771 Å, β= 91·55° and space group P21/n. A least-squares analysis of limited three-dimensional diffractometer data (R= 0·052) shows the platinum–chlorine bond-lengths to average 2·310(7) while the diolefin is asymmetrically bonded with platinum–carbon bond-lengths averaging 2·10(2) and 2·33(2)Å. The stereochemistry of the diolefin is discussed in relation to the bonding in other olefin complexes.
