Structure of molecules of type (CH3)3X—C[triple bond, length as m-dash]C—Y (X[double bond, length as m-dash]Si, Ge, Y[double bond, length as m-dash]H, Cl) determined by electron diffraction

Abstract

The structure of the molecules (CH3)3Si—C[triple bond, length as m-dash]C—H, (CH3)3Si—C[triple bond, length as m-dash]C—Cl and (CH3)3Ge—C[triple bond, length as m-dash]C—Cl as gases have been determined using electron diffraction. The lengths of the C[triple bond, length as m-dash]C bond show no significant differences from the corresponding bond length in carbon compounds. We conclude therefore that the length of the C[triple bond, length as m-dash]C bond is insensitive to π-electron delocalization.
