Reaction of sulphene with highly halogenated ketones

Abstract

β-Sultones are formed from the cycloaddition of sulphene with hexahalogenoacetones; however, 1,1,1-trihalogenoacetones do not give the expected adduct but instead yield the novel 1-trihalogenomethylvinyl methanesulphonates.
