The polymerisation of cyclic formals by triethyloxonium tetrafluoroborate

Abstract

In the polymerisation of 1,3-dioxolan by Et3O+BF4 the formation of active centres (which are stable when formed) is slow, and it is accompanied by competitive hydride abstraction from monomer and decomposition of the catalyst.
