The direct determination of boron in copper alloys and nickel after dissolution in nitric acid

Abstract

A procedure is described in which the sample is dissolved in a mixture of sulphuric and nitric acids, hydrochloric acid added if tin is present, and nitrate reduced with formic acid. An aliquot of the solution is treated with acetic anhydride, curcumin added, followed by an acetone-water mixture, and the absorbance of the boron-curcumin complex measured.
