Controlled-potential coulometers based upon modular electronic units. Part II. The determination of ruthenium by controlled-potential coulometry

Abstract

A method is described for the determination of ruthenium by controlled-potential coulometry. Quadrivalent ruthenium as the binuclear [Ru2O]6+ chlorocomplex in 5 M hydrochloric acid is reduced to tervalent ruthenium at the platinum electrode at a potential of +0·05 V versus the S.C.E. Milligram amounts of ruthenium can be determined with a coefficient of variation of 1·0 per cent. The method has been applied to uranium-ruthenium alloys and uranium carbide-ruthenium cermet materials.
