Determination of milligram amounts of thiourea and some of its derivatives with N-bromosuccinimide

Abstract

N-Bromosuccinimide oxidises aqueous solutions of thiourea and some of its derivatives readily and quantitatively. The reaction takes place at room temperature and N-bromosuccinimide is reduced to succinimide. A titrimetric method for the determination of thiourea, phenylthiourea and allylthiourea with standard N-bromosuccinimide solution is described. The experimental error does not exceed ±1·0 per cent. of the theoretical value.
