Solvation spectra. Part 24.—Effect of solvent on the electron spin resonance spectra of 2,6-dimethyl- and related p-benzosemiquinones

Abstract

The tendency for the anions of 2,6-dimethyl and 2,6-ditertiary butyl benzosemiquinone to solvate to differing extents at the two oxygen atoms results in a marked sensitivity of their e.s.r. spectra to environmental changes. This property has been used to monitor their interaction with a wide range of solvents and the results are compared with other properties of these solvents.
