Semiconductivity of organic substances. Part 14.—Electrode effects in proteins

Abstract

The conductivity of pre-compressed discs of bovine plasma albumen has been examined in the dry state with four different electrode metals, Cu, Pt, Al and In. Closely similar results were obtained in all cases for the conduction parameters, viz. Δε= 2.90 eV and log10σ0= 6.3 (ohm–1 cm–1). Although the results may be reconciled with an intrinsic mechanism, a second possibility is a charge carrier injection mechanism with surface states.
