Surface tensions of molten polyphosphate mixtures

Abstract

The surface tensions of mixtures of the molten polyphosphate systems, LiPO3+ NaPO3, LiPO3, KPO3, NaPO3+ KPO3 and NaPO3+ Ca(PO3)2 have been measured over the temperature ranges 750–1150; 705–1155; 805–1155 and 805–1150°C respectively. From the results the surface heats of mixing per unit area have been estimated and slight deviations from thermodynamic ideality detected. I.-r. spectra of quenched samples showed no evidence of compound formation in the mixtures.
