Zinc reductions of keto-groups to methylene groups

Abstract

A new method is described for the reduction of keto-groups to methylene groups, and the scope and the optimum conditions for the conversion of keto-steroids into deoxy-derivatives, by use of active zinc powder in acetic anhydride saturated with hydrogen chloride, are also discussed.
