Oxidation of alkoxyphenols. Part XVI. The reaction of 4-methoxy-2,5-di-t-butylphenol with lead tetra-acetate

Abstract

Besides the p-quinone three acetoxycyclohexadienones are produced in the reaction of 4-methoxy-2,5-di-t-butylphenol with lead tetra-acetate. Methanol converts two of these into dimethyl acetals, and also allows the isolation of a mixture of 4-methoxy-3,6-di-t-butylcatechol monoacetates.
