The deoxygenative chlorination of heterocyclic S-oxides
Abstract
The deoxygenative chlorination of S-oxides of diphenyl sulphide, dibenzothiophen, thianthren, and phenoxathiin has been investigated. The products obtained arise by electrophilic chlorination of the parent heterocycle.
Attempts to synthesise chlorothianthrens by the Friedel–Crafts reaction of chlorophenyl phenyl sulphides with sulphur were thwarted by a ready reductive dechlorination.
