Photoaddition of acrylonitrile to benzene

Abstract

The photoaddition of acrylonitrile to benzene has been shown to give the 1 : 1-adduct 7-cyanobicylo[4,2,0]octa-2,4-diene and hence, in a thermal addition, the 1 : 2-adducts 3,9- or 3,10-dicyanotricyclo[4,2,2,02,5]dec-7-ene. Various derivatives of the adducts are described.
