The kinetics and mechanism of the alkaline hydrolysis of organic sulphites
Abstract
The rates of alkaline hydrolysis of some aliphatic and aromatic organic sulphites have been studied at various temperatures. The enthalpies and entropies of activation have been determined. Kinetic acceleration in organic sulphites is shown to be due almost entirely to the differences in the entropies of activation of cyclic sulphites and their open-chain analogues.
