Surface problems in kinetic studies of the gas-phase pyrolyses of alkyl halides. Part II. Pyrolyses of alkyl iodides
Abstract
The kinetics of the pyrolyses of ethyl, isopropyl, and t-butyl iodides have been studied in the presence of polar and free-radical containing reaction vessel surfaces. Ethyl iodide was insensitive to surface, isopropyl iodides showed slight polar surface sensitivity, and t-butyl iodide was strongly surface-sensitive. The reliability of the Arrhenius parameters of previous workers and the mechanisms of these pyrolyses are discussed in the light of the present results.
