Organometallic studies. Part XXVI. Mass spectra of π-allylic rhodium and palladium complexes

Abstract

Fragmentation patterns for π-allylrhodium and π-allylpalladium complexes under electron impact indicate the presence of stable fragment ions containing metal–metal bonds. Valency changes may be an important factor in the fragmentation process of rhodium complexes. It is suggested that cyclization of the metal-bound allyl moiety occurs to form cyclopropenylmetal fragment ions.
