Arylamine co-ordination complexes. Part III. o-Phenylenediamine complexes of cobalt(II), nickel (II), and zinc(II) containing polyatomic anions

Abstract

An account is given of some complexes of the type M(diamine)2X2(X =½ SO4, ½SeO4, NO3, NCS, NO2), [M(diamine)2(H2O)2]YO4, and M(diamine)3YO4(Y = S, Se), where the diamine is o-phenylenediamine and in some cases 4-methyl-o-phenylenediamine and M is Ni and in some cases Co or Zn. The compounds are six-co-ordinate and have been characterised by magnetic and spectral measurements. Measurements of NH2 and CN stretching frequencies indicate the presence of some unidentate diamine in the 3 : 1 complexes and of bidentate diamine in the 2 : 1 complexes. The species [Ni(diamine)2Z2](Z = H2O, NO3, and NO2) appear to have trans-structures.
